If you’re the sort of person who orders off the “secret menu” at restaurants, and always knows the fastest line at the grocery check-out, you’ll love this: AMA can automatically renew your car's registration every year! No line-ups, no hassle, no remembering your renewal date. It’s called Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew and we’ve got everything you need to know right here.
Why did AMA launch Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew?
When the provincial government stopped mailing out vehicle registration renewal notices, AMA wanted to ensure members were never caught with expired registrations. With Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew, we take care of the renewal automatically, every year. This service is exclusive to AMA members.
How do AMA members sign up?
Simply log into AMA’s My Online Account, click on Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew (listed under My Registries on the left-hand navigation), and follow the listed instructions. We’ll send you emails each year to give you a heads-up before your registration expires, then use the method of payment on your membership file to process the renewal. You’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know your new stickers and certificate are in the mail.
How will I know when the renewal is processed, and what it cost?
Once you’ve signed up for Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew, the next thing you have to do is… nothing. That’s because six weeks before your expiry date, we’ll send you an email letting you know the exact date we’ll process the renewal and the amount we’ll charge your credit card. Vehicle registration fees are set by the Government of Alberta and there is no extra fee to sign up (or cancel) your AMA auto-renew service.
Can another family member in my household take advantage of auto-renew?
You bet. My Online Account is the place where you can add your spouse, teenager, or significant other as an associate member. Once they’re added to your account, you (or they) can sign up for Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew and never worry about expired plates again!
What happens if I sell my vehicle, change addresses or my payment card expires?
We’ll email you six weeks before your annual renewal date with a reminder to check in and see if you sold the vehicle, changed addresses, or replaced your credit card, which could affect your registration renewal. If we run into any issues, we’ll contact you again to sort things out.
That sounds good, but what if the licence plate sticker doesn’t come in the mail?
We’re working hard behind the scenes to make sure that doesn’t happen. When your automated renewal comes up each year, a real human being will process the transaction and mail out the registration certificate and licence plate sticker. If you still find yourself eyeing the calendar skeptically a week before the deadline, give us a call at 1-844-733-1017 and we’ll make sure you the paperwork on time.
